Prada Cup and Americas Cup Yachting Auckland 2021

Today, the Prada Cup starts on Auckland Harbour. Whoever wins this series will go on to challenge for the world's oldest sporting trophy, The Americas Cup, currently held by New Zealand. Covid-19 means the only spectators will be New Zealander's, but extensive live coverage is available in the USA. Sheer speed and aggression and spectacular high speed spills, will make for an exciting spectacle.

There are three challengers.

From Italy, Prada Pirelli.

From the USA, Airbus American Magic

From the UK INEOS Team UK.

Still trying to regain the trophy they lost 160 years ago, INEOS Team UK going through its paces at Hobson Bay.

We're told that over the past few months, Luna Rossa have shown an ability to dominate in the lower wind range, Prada Cup favorite American Magic look better downwind, and INEOS Team UK have shown good speed in a decent breeze but has been horribly exposed in light airs.

All of the Prada Cup races will be broadcast live on NBC Sports, the America’s Cup YouTube channel and Facebook page.

Prada Cup Schedule

Remember, the following schedule is New Zealand time, one day ahead of US time; For example, Race 1 and Race 2 will be viewed here on January 14.

PS not a great start for the Americans on Day 1, losing to the English entrant INEOS Team UK. Ineos Team UK also beat the Italian entrant to go to the top of the table. But there's a lot more racing to come before the final.
