New Zealand from Space

If you're just starting to plan a New Zealand vacation, you might like to start with a long distance view! Look carefully and you will see the top of New Zealand's South Island and part of the North Island in this photograph. Taken in 2006 while the astronauts were doing maintenance on the International Space Station.

Here's another great shot, taken by the crew of the space shuttle Discovery in October 2009, as they pulled away from the space station after undocking. Taken from a height of 136 miles and with New Zealand clearly visible in the background. We think these are shots of rare beauty and thanks to NASA for allowing us to share them with you.
