Great Travel Experiences the North Island - 2

Completed in 2014, this 10-mile walking and cycling walkway is one of the nicest coastal trails in New Zealand. After leaving the city beaches it follows the coastline for a while before veering inland, passing through bush-land and attractive rural landscapes. There are fantastic coastal and mountain views, including the perfectly shaped cone of Mt Taranaki clearly visible in the distance.

The coastal walkway includes the award winning Te Rewa Rewa footbridge over the Waiwhakaiho stream.

The most talked-about feature of the New Plymouth walkway is the 157 feet high Len Lye’s kinetic sculpture Wind Wand. It moves gracefully through the air and as you will see from this early evening shot, captured by Susan, the result is quite beautiful - read our blog for more about scupltor Len Lye -  North Island Highlights - New Plymouth
