"The Light Between Oceans" and New Zealand

Opening Friday is the movie "The Light Between Oceans", named after the same-titled best selling novel. The book is set in Western Australia but the movie was filmed entirely in New Zealand.

The filming location was just south of New Zealand's most well known wine region of Marlborough, around the Cape Campbell Lighthouse that you see in our photo.

This is what the BBC North American website said today about 'The Light Between Oceans'

"Directed by Derek Cianofrance, this sleek-looking adaptation of the acclaimed Australian novel, tells the story of a lighthouse keeper and his wife who adopt a baby girl when she mysteriously washes up on their island inside a rowing boat. Several years later, during a visit to the mainland, they discover that their well-meaning decision has had a devastating effect on the lives of others. With Michael Fassbender, Alicia Vikander and Rachel Weisz in lead roles, this has the pedigree of a future Oscar contender."

The team here at New Zealand Vacations can arrange visits to the lighthouse location on some of our suggested itineraries. Like this one, the Self Drive - New Zealand in Depth 22 day journey.

Keep in mind however, that on a high tide the access road to the lighthouse can become impassable, so forward planning is needed.
